NaNo So Far...

We are officially two thirds done with NaNo.  I am proud, and a little surprised, to say that I am officially on track to hit 50,000 words by the end of the month.  I may even be able to finish the story which might actually be a bigger accomplishment for me.  Once I've had a chance to polish it a little I will put an excerpt up for ya'll to check out.

In the mean time here's some of my play list which has served as some inspiration for the story:

"The Sound Of Winter" by Bush
"No Matter What" by Papa Roach
"Get Thru This" by Art of Dying
"End of Me" by Apocalyptica featuring Gavin Rossdale
"My Way" by 3 Doors Down
"Fade to Black" by Metallica
"Animal I Have Become" by Three Days Grace
"What I've Done" by Linkin Park
"I'm Not An Angel" by Halestorm
"Rain" by Creed
"It's My Life" by Bon Jovi
"It's Been Awhile" by Staind

For those of you participating in NaNo - good luck.

For everyone else - happy writing!

The Awesomeness of Pinterest

I have to give a big nod to the blog that introduced me to Pinterest - Write On Edge.  They featured this site as a writing tool a while ago.  I will admit I was a bit skeptical at first.  Then I checked it out.  And instantly fell in love with it.

This is an amazing resource for inspiration, ideas and details.  For those of you who might not know what it is, it's basically an online bulletin board that allows you to save photos and images from the web to virtual boards.  I have now collected a number of images for several things I'm working on.  When I need inspiration for what a person/object/place looks like, I search Pinterest or the web for pictures that connect with what I'm looking for.  It's been a wonderful resource in helping flesh out details that I sometimes struggle with.

If you haven't checked it out, I would highly recommend you do so.  If you have, feel free to look me up there - Stacy Overby.  Then you can see some of the things that have helped me write some of the pieces I've posted here as well as stuff for some longer pieces I am working on.  That includes what I'm working on for NaNoWriMo.

I will put in one warning here at the end.  If you're not careful, it can be a distraction to your writing.  It's easy to get so wrapped up in finding images to help with inspiration, etc that you don't actually get to the writing part.

There.  You've been forewarned.  Check it out and have fun!

Why Me??

OK - I need a place to whine for a moment.  Sorry if my whining offends anyone but, then again, if it does - why are you still reading this?

Anyways, I just needed to whine about how things seem to end to being harder than necessary for me at times.  This time it's about NaNoWriMo.  As I posted earlier, I decided to be really brave and give NaNo a try.  But, I just found out today I have a partially torn ligament in my right hand.  I am now stuck waring a brace that wraps my index and middle fingers together and prevents anything from moving/bending from just below my finger tips to just past my wrist.  And I get to wear it most, if not all of November.

Do you know how hard it is to type like that???  And, now I'm trying to type 50,000 words before November 30 on top of what I type for work???

I feel better now.  No sympathy needed.  I just needed to complain for a moment.  But, seriously, if I don't make the 50,000 words this is probably at least part of the reason why.  Thank you for letting me complain for a bit.
