Bathroom Saga Part 2 of an Unknown Number

Just in case you missed Part 1 - I introduced you to our home improvement project.  In telling this tale I got as far as painting last time.  So - onward ho!

Like I said in the last blog entry, I made the mistake of suggesting we paint the bathroom before we re-do the floor.  Had I known what I was getting myself into with that suggestion I would never have said anything.  First my husband wanted to tear out the walls and put new sheet rock up because he didn't like how the walls were done in the bathroom.  I had to tactfully remind him we were NOT remodeling the whole bathroom - we were just getting rid of the carpet.  A short "discussion" later he finally agreed to just paint the walls.

Then came the "discussion" about what color to paint the walls.  You see, currently they are this bland, tasteless tan and white stripped pattern.  I wanted something with a little more color and character.  My husband's suggestion - white.  Not plain white but like eggshell white.  Time for a meeting of the minds.  Like before, we had a "discussion" that ended with agreeing to yet another trip to Menards (like trip number 7 or 8 for those of you that are counting) to look at paint chips.  My plan - get 2 or 3 chips we liked best and pick one from there.  I don't know what my husband's plan was.

What I can tell you is what did end up happening.  Let me clue ya - it was NOT 2-3 paint chips.  It was more like 10-15 paint chips (and a few of those had more than 1 color on the strip).  I wonder what my husband would have done had I not told him we had enough.  Yes - this from the man who initially insisted on painting the bathroom white.

After we got them all home we still had to pick out which color we were actually going to paint the bathroom.  We got it narrowed down to like 2-3 colors without any drama or issue.  Too bad that didn't last long.  It was time for a decision.  I thought I could get my husband's opinion on which one of the 3 colors we should paint.  That was when we reverted back to the previous issue of listing choices instead of making a decision.  You think I would have been smart enough to leave it alone and just pick something, but, what can I say, I wasn't.  Yes - we went through that whole thing - again.

I did wise up a little quicker this time.  I finally gave up and picked out a color on my own.  Yes, my husband was fine with it.  I wish I could tell you this is where the saga ends, but it wouldn't be a saga if it did.  So [in an over dramatic TV announcer's voice] Stay tuned for the next installment in the ongoing saga of the bathroom project!

Bathroom Saga - Part 1 of an unknown quantity

Yep.  You read that right.  It's a saga.  I never knew this bathroom project I had planned would turn into this.  Let me give you a little background first.  I live in a mobile home.  My husband and I bought it when we got sick of living in an apartment and couldn't afford a regular mortgage.  One of the things I learned the hard way about our home is that having a carpeted bathroom is probably one of the single most stupid things one could do.  Therefore, this year when it came time to decide what projects to spend money on, I decided that the carpet in the bathroom had to go.  I had put up with it for too long and it was starting to look really nasty.

This is where the saga comes in.  Being I am married and co-own this house with my husband, I figured we needed to decide together what we should do.  That was probably my first mistake.  I kid you not.  I think it was like 5-6 trips to Menards/Home Depot later and we still hadn't decided on what to do with the floor.  Literally, that was the only thing I wanted done at that point - a new floor - that's it.  Every time I would ask my husband what he wanted to do with the floor he would start listing options.  I would stop him and remind him that I didn't want the options.  I wanted to know what he wanted to do.  Then I would get the options again.  At one point, while we were standing at Menards - yet again - he came up to me with a marble, yes marble, tile.  Very pretty.  Very strange to put in a mobile home!

We went home and discussed the project, yet again.  I decided at that point I wanted to paint the walls as well.  Oh boy did THAT open a can of worms.  Now we had to decide what color to paint the walls AND what to do with the floor.  I was really in for it at that point.  Cue more trips to Menards/Home Depot.

The discussion on what color to paint will be part 2 of the Bathroom Saga.

I just recently was out of town.  I was staying in a hotel near where we ended up in a handi-cap accessible room.  Not really an issue as I have been in handi-cap accessible rooms before when staying in hotels.  This one was a little odd compared to rooms I've been in before.  It had a phone in the bathroom next to the toilet.  I don't know that I have ever seen something like that before.  Then again, considering the way the toilet flushed....anyone might need it!  Talk about noisy and serious suction.  Maybe that's why the phone is really there.  You might want to make sure you are not sitting there when you flush or you might need that phone!

OK.  I'll stop now.  I am NOT trying to make fun of anyone with a disability with this.  I just found the whole thing rather odd and kinda funny when the toilet was soooo loud and the phone was right there.
